Weird Wisdom: Tidbits

1. Before you say something significant (In your eyes and in their eyes) think VERY carefully. Especially if you're gonna say something to a family member or a friend. I forgot to heed this advice several times and that landed me into a whole lot of embarassments and troubles.

2. Don't tell white lies. Ever. Period. Telling white lies is not only bad, it is potentially damaging. If discovered, it sends the signal to that person that they are too "stupid" or "naive" to hear the truth.

3. It's helpful to keep a vocab log. That is, when you're reading, write down a list of words that you don't know. You can look them up and write their definitions into a notebook. Very helpful if you're trying to improve your vocabulary.

4. Don't take comments too personally! OK, maybe what your friend said is hurtful, but you gotta learn not to take it too personally. Remember that sometimes people don't mean it when they say it or that it's just you.

5. What you feel about your family is most likely a "love-hate" one. It means that sometimes you feel that you love them very much, but the next day (or even hour!) you feel that you hate them. It's normal, so don't worry.

6. Relax! I admit, sometimes I take myself too seriously. What I mean is that it's good to set goals, but don't work TOO hard. Don't get me wrong. Working hard is good. But working yourself to death (not literally) is not good. Working too hard leads to being burnt out. Trust me, I've been there before.

7. Do what you need to do, ASAP. Procrastination is your enemy. I've seen too many people saying "Oh, sorry, I procrastinate too much" It's OK the first few times, but don't say that everytime. (OK, OK, I admit. I used to be like that too! And sometimes still is. DX) You'll be surprised at what could be done without procrastination. I was!

8. Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man stupid and blind in the eyes. I found that in Ender's Game. It's true, though. At least for me.

9. When keeping secrets, do not, I repeat, DO NOT tell anybody. Especially friends unless you're absolutely sure you can trust him/her. If you tell a friend, (especially a gossipy one) expect that secret to be told to your whole school. Family members are another thing. Some siblings are willing to keep secrets, some don't. Some even make you pay them to keep your secret, so watch out. Even worse, some are just plain tattletales.

10. Don't underestimate anybody's power. And don't overestimate outcomes either.

11. Read good books. Why? To fully understand this, I suggest the book "The Dumbest Generation."

12. Keep your cool at all times. Panic is your enemy.

13. If you're worried, talk to someone.Anyone. If all else fails, pray.
