How to Be a Champ at Sword Drills
You know what sword drills are, right? Well, if you don't, I'll fill in the details for you. Sword drills are those "contests" at church where you try to be the first person to find a passage in the Bible. While it may seem hard, it's actually very easy when you get the "click."Memorize
Memorize the books of the Bible. It's not that hard. If you get bored by saying (0r writing) them repetively, try finding a CD with the "Books of the Bible" song. It will help a lot, even with me! Don't get confused by which one is in the Old Testament, and which one is in the New Testament. :)Practice!
Practice makes perfect. You can ask a friend or family member to call out a random (or not-so-random) Bible verse, and have them time you. See if you can get it under a minute! When you've reach your 'goal' try to set harder ones until you can find the verses in under 15 seconds.Train your reflexes! Train yourself to put your Bible down first. This can give you a bit of an advantage, even if it's just a bit.
Tips & Tricks
Do not look at the contents!! I cannot nag you enough. Looking at the contents will only slow you down. If you're new, that would be OK, I suppose, but it'll be much better to memorize the books of the Bible. Only look at the contents when you have absolutely no clue where you are.Don't cheat by holding your Bible upside down so you know where to open it. But when you put your Bible down, don't open it immediately but estimate where the passage (roughly) is. This should take no more than a few seconds if you're an expert. The more you do this, the better you get!
Sometimes there can be tricks, like the word one. The Word trick (I made up the name xD) is when the pastor or whomever calls the passage name, tricks you with word tricks. An example is "Ready, set, DON'T" or "Ready, set, [pause]" Try not to fall for these.
