Intro
Making a website layout can be either really frustrating or a little frustrating. It depends on preparation, mostly, and a bit on your coding skills and other such things. This checklist can be for seasoned layout makers or newbies to the, uh, trade. The complete list is for the hardcore people, since some things are optional. Judge for yourself. The Acual Checklist. Not in order.
Real Life- Soft item When you headdesk, you'll at least have something soft. A pillow is recommended.
- Laptop/computer
- Reference books
- Water and snacks So you don't forget to eat and drink.
- Post-its They're for reminding yourself about certain website things.
- A comfortable area to sit Ideal choices are your desk, your bed, a library, a couch, or a (bookstore) cafe. What's not ideal is outdoors, on the Himalayas, a rock concert, and someplace with a TV on.
- Music Something instrumental is best, because you won't get distracted by the words. If you feel you must, try something according to your mood.
- Color Picker Try something like Nattyware's Pixie. It takes the direct color from your image and give you the codes in HTML and more.
- Color Scheme You can use a color scheme picker. This is a must for a nice looking, coordinated layout.
- Reference websites HTMLDog is one of those. They're like reference books, but online.
- Text editor Notepad is one of the most basic text editor there is. I recommend Notepad++ though.
- Image editing program Photoshop, of course, is the best and most expensive. If you're too cheap, I recommend Paint.NET.
- Image Host You can host your images yourself or you can use a free host like Photobucket.
Tips
Don't forget to eat and drink. Take 15 minute breaks every 1-2 hours. Don't take them too much or too long or else you'll forget what you were working on. There will be that one section/code where a soft item is mandatory. Try to refrain for hurting yourself or your computer. In Conclusion
This ends the checklist. ^^ Look for the "Putting Up Your Website Layout" (Or called something like that) coming in Wacky O in mid August 2010. I hope you won't/didn't headdesk much and your layout looks good.
